Do you need to SORN a car in storage?

You only need to SORN a car in storage if you stop taxing it or stop insuring it. A car kept off the road, whether that's in a garage, on a drive or at a storage facility on private land, can stay taxed and insured instead. What it can't be is untaxed or uninsured without a SORN. GOV.UK is clear that a vehicle without a SORN must be taxed and insured, and that anyone who doesn't is automatically fined £80 for not having a SORN, with a separate fine for having an uninsured vehicle.
